Volunteer Program
 

Volunteering enriches both the giver and the receiver. Each month, over 100 volunteers extend a helping hand and a caring heart through our Hands & Hearts Volunteer Program.

To be a Hands & Hearts volunteer, you must:

  • Be at least 11 years old
  • Complete a background check successfully (if over 16 years of age)
  • Complete an application
  • Complete an interview
  • Provide references
  • Complete our volunteer orientation
  • Allow Mennonite Village to perform a Tuberculosis (TB) skin test, if necessary.

    Serve as a Hands & Heart Volunteer

    Gift Shop Attendant: staff a gift shop that serves visitors and residents of Mennonite Home or Quail Run Assisted Living. All proceeds are used to fund employee educational scholarships.

    Group Activity Assistant: assist staff or other volunteers in group or one-on-one activities with residents in Mennonite Home, Lydia's House, or Quail Run.

    Laundry Helper: fold sheets, spreads, and other items used in Mennonite Home; transport barrels of dirty linens to the laundry area; deliver clean supplies to storage cupboards.

    Maintenance Assistant: work with the Grounds or Maintenance staff to do yard work, building repair and upkeep, and room setup.

    Personal Services Assistant: work with a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) to provide assistance to Mennonite Home residents who need help with basic, personal care (except duties that require certification). May also provide one-on-one social interaction, fingernail painting, bed making, and food and beverage service with additional training.

    Pastoral Services Assistant: assist with Sunday worship services, lead music, play piano, conduct one-on-one visits with residents, read, pray, assist with Bible studies and singing events, sit with residents through the dying process (additional special training provided).
