On Monday, July 31, 2006, Mennonite Village completed the purchase of an additional 76 acres of land east of our existing facility. Our 92 acre campus almost doubled in size as we became the proud owners of the “Lakeview” addition. The property is bordered on the north by the railroad tracks, to the east by Interstate 5, and on the south by a beautiful lake. There’s a great view of the lake and a wonderful forested area that is home to a family of deer and other native wildlife. The land is currently being farmed. Our walking path will eventually be extended to allow our residents the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. The long term plans for this property are will probably include expansion to accommodate the next generation of residents. Important Events at the Village June 5th, 2006 was a special day in the history of Mennonite Village. We were able to present a brand new kneeling bus to our residents. This is the first bus of its kind West of the Mississippi! It’s unique in its design because of its capability of kneeling and extending a gently sloping ramp. This makes entry and exit from the bus very simple for all people, regardless of their mobility. The weather was perfect and the crowd of people that turned out was excited to see our new bus “in person.” The Heritage Mall provided refreshments and the Albany Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors were on hand to “Cut the Ribbon.” After Ron Litwiller received the keys from the representative from Metro West Bus, he started up the bus and honked the horn to let everyone know the bus was ready to roll! Be sure to look for our new bus as it travels around town with out residents. You’ll know it belongs to the Village by all of the smiling residents! | |||
