Mennonite Village will honor their much‐loved chaplain, Lynn Miller, who plans to retire this month. Miller served as an ordained Mennonite minister and pastor of Albany Mennonite Church during his career, which spanned nearly four decades.
“Lynn Miller’s presence as a caring, experienced minister has been a great gift to Mennonite Village. He brought us the culmination of nearly 40 years as a minister in other places, including the local community and Albany Mennonite Church,” noted Teresa Moser, Chaplaincy Services Director at Mennonite Village. “Lynn has a rare blend of confidence and humility, of compassion for people and love for scripture. Lynn is a model of comforting the sick, caring for the dying, and encouraging the burdened. He has embodied the spirit of Christ who is at the heart of our mission.”
Lynn Miller was raised in Idaho on a sugar beet farm, and later became a farmer himself. After marriage, three children, and six years of farming, he felt the Lord called him to pastoral ministry. He and his family moved to Virginia in 1970 to attend Eastern Mennonite University and Seminary. Miller served three congregations prior to becoming a chaplain at Mennonite Village in the year 2000. His words of encouragement and support have been greatly appreciated by staff and residents there.
“Lynn’s personal demeanor and listening skills provide a welcome calm to the constant hustle around us,” explained Mennonite Village CEO Ron Litwiller. “We will miss his presence among us, but we will be reminded often of his words and actions.”
Miller and his wife, Janice, look forward to the next phase in their lives together. They plan to do voluntary service with the Mennonite Church, beginning with several months at the Mennonite Central Committee’s relief headquarters in Ephrata, PA. |
