Mennonite Village Foundation
Fulfilling the Mission of Mennonite Village

The Mennonite Village Foundation was incorporated in 1990 as a 501(c)(3) corporation to raise funds from contributions, bequests, and grants for the development and support of Mennonite Village and its residents.   We support the Covenant and Mission Statement of Mennonite Village and operate within the ethical Guidelines of the Donor Bill of Rights of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Our purpose for existence is to:

       •
Provide financial assistance for  residents whose financial resources are limited or exhausted
       •
Provide funding for services, capital improvements, and personal growth for all residents and staff
       •
Support the solicitation and encourage the making of gifts, donations, and bequests of money and property for the use and benefit of Mennonite Village
       •
Provide education to the general public regarding the activities of the Mennonite Village Foundation

Ways to Give to Mennonite Village

Gifts of Cash
This is the simplest way to give.  You can deduct a cash gift for income tax purposes only in the year in which you contribute it.  Your cash gifts are deductible up to 50% of your adjusted gross income for the taxable year, but any excess is deductible over the next five years.

Gifts of Real Estate
If you own property that is fully paid off and has appreciated in value, an outright gift may be the simplest solution.  You can deduct the fair market value of your gift, avoid capital gains taxes and remove the asset from your taxable estate.

Gifts of Life Insurance
You can donate a life insurance policy to us or simply name us as the beneficiary.  For the gift of a paid-up policy, you’ll receive an income tax deduction equal to the lesser of the cash value of the policy or the total premiums paid.

Gifts of Securities
The best stocks to donate are those that have increased greatly in value, particularly those producing a low yield.  Even if it is stock you wish to keep in your portfolio, by giving the stock to Mennonite Village Foundation and using cash to buy the same stock through your broker, you will have received the same income tax deduction but will have a new, higher basis in the stock.

Planned Giving
There are many opportunities to make a deferred or planned gift to the Mennonite Village Foundation.  Each gift is a personal and confidential decision.  Many of the planned gifts will provide you with a lifetime income, usually at a favorable rate.
You are encouraged to contact the Foundation office for more information on the following planned gifts and decide which will work best for you.
• Charitable Gift Annuities
• Appreciated Assets
• Bequest in your Will
• Life Insurance naming Mennonite Village Foundation as the beneficiary
• 401K disbursements as a source of charitable giving
• Charitable Remainder Trusts
If you want more information about any of the topics above, contact the Mennonite Village Foundation at 541-928-7232 ext. 254 or by email.
