Dear Mr. Hays [Administrator of Mennonite Home Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation],

My husband and I were touched that your staff gave up their holiday to serve a Thanksgiving feast to residents and their families.

Thursday's dinner was delicious and decidedly non-institutional. Your staff had taken great care to send formal invitations and to decorate the dining room in seasonal style. We were delighted that my mom could enjoy a family meal without the discomfort of travel to our home.

This was the first time she had ventured out of her room for a meal. I hope the experience will nudge her to enjoy regular meals in a more sociable setting.

On the way home, we reflected once again how Mennonite Home hires excellent people and trains them well. The spirit of service is pervasive. No matter what their job, all staffers seem committed, as your handbook says, "to provide an environment that lovingly and effectively enhances the quality of life."
