Mennonite Village Older Americans Day 2014 from Stutzman Services

Best Friends Course for Alzheimer's & Dementia Care

Mary Scott of Mennonite Village offers a six-course (two-day) workshop to provide practical, useful information on the care and interactions with someone who suffers from Alzheimer's disease and/or related dementia.

The workshop offers a comprehensive, person-centered, non-medical model of care that is easy to learn and understand

  • Transforms caregiving from a terrible burden to care that is manageable
  • Describes the experience of having dementia
  • Teaches caregivers how to assess an individual's strengths and weaknesses
  • Discusses the importance of the person's life story
  • Introduces the "knack" of caregiving and a number of "do's and don'ts."

This workshop is beneficial for family members, home care providers, facility caregivers, state workers, respite workers, social workers, and anyone who has experienced the effects of Alzheimer's disease in their lives.
